The eruption of the volcano that changed the destiny of Lewa

The volcano eruption that changed Robert Lewandowski’s career

Robert Lewandowski moved to a professional club outside Poland in 2010. The forward signed for Borussia Dortmund but came close to moving to the Premier League.

The Icelandic volcano of 2010 did not make it possible. Their transfer to Blackburn did not occur because ash clouds covered European skies and blocked air traffic.

Describing his experiences at the time, Robert Lewandowski said:

“I had the opportunity to join Blackburn Rovers. I wanted to see what Blackburn, the training ground, was like. I first met Sam Allardyce. It was after a game in Poland. I thought he was a good guy, a very good coach. Allardyce was looking to sign a young player, I thought it was something new and could be something special. “He wanted to come to Poland to see me.”

“I COULD NOT GO THROUGH THE VOLCANO”

“When I left Poznan I had many offers to consider. I think he would have been nice if he had gone to Blackburn, I couldn’t go over the top. by the volcano (The Grimsvotn volcano in Iceland erupted in 2010). A week passed and no one in Europe could fly. The flight was arranged but we couldn’t go. This changed my life. “If I had gone to Blackburn I might have stayed there.”

GREAT SUCCESS IN THE BUNDESLIGA

By chance, Lewandowski was transferred to Borussia Dortmund, where he spent four successful seasons.

This brilliant performance in the Bundesliga made him the favorite of his biggest rival, Bayern Munich. He spent another year in the German giant and managed to complete an enviable record: 8 leagues, 3 German Cups, 5 German Super Cups, a Champions League, a European Super Cup and a Club World Cup.

After achieving everything in the Bundesliga, Lewandowski signed for Barcelona, where he currently plays. Although he is 35 years old, he has not yet achieved his goal of playing in the Premier League, one of the strongest leagues in the world.
