Messi’s anger caused confusion on the field: Argentina bowed to Uruguay

Argentina hosted Uruguay in the South American Qualification match for the 2026 World Cup. Marcelo Bielsa’s students achieved a decisive victory by beating Argentina 2-0 with Lionel Messi.

Argentina, the last world champion and owner of a streak of 14 consecutive victories, received Uruguay at the famous La Bombonera stadium of Boca Juniors.

Uruguay went ahead 1-0 with a goal from defender Ronald Araujo in the 41st minute of the match, and connected with Darwin Núñez in the 87th minute and managed to defeat Argentina 2-0.

The tension reached its peak in the final moments of the match, when both teams were unable to take advantage of many opportunities.

The argument between Lionel Messi and Mathias Olivera quickly broke out. While the Argentine star hugged his opponent’s throat, his friends intervened and were barely able to separate them. The fight ended after a fight between other players.

With this result, Uruguay increased its points to 10 and reduced the point difference with the group leader, Argentina, to 2.
