Melo made history at 40 years old

Fluminense champion of the Copa Libertadores

In the final of the 2023 Copa Libertadores, the most important tournament in South American football at the club level, played at the Maracaná stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the Brazilian team Fluminense defeated the Argentine team Boca Juniors 2-1 in extra time. and won the Libertadores Cup for the first time in its history.

Former Galatasaray soccer player Felipe Melo was also among the first 11 at 40 years old, playing for Fluminense, champion of the Copa Libertadores.

While Fluminense scored the first goal of the match in which the most important match in South America was decided, Germán Canó scored in the 36th minute, Boca Juniors equalized with a goal from Luis Advíncula in the 72nd minute. Although the regular time of the match ended 1 -1, Fluminense went ahead 2-1 in extra time with a goal from John Kennedy in the 99th minute and the match ended with this score.

In the match, Fluminense’s John Kennedy received a red card in the 101st minute and Boca Juniors’ Frank Fabra received a red card in the 105th+7th minute, leaving his team with 10 men. (AA)
