Aston Villa statement on Nicolo Zaniolo
Aston Villa made a statement about Nicolo Zaniolo, whose statement was taken as part of the investigation into illegal betting in Italy.
Zaniolo, on loan from Galatasaray earlier this season, was one of the main names in the investigation, along with New Caslte United’s Sandro Tonali and Juventus star Nicolo Fagioli.
However, in the following days the opinion began to prevail that Zaniolo did not place bets and played on illegal sites. While the Italian footballer admitted that he gambled, he stated that he was not involved in betting in any way.
English club Aston Villa made the following statements about Zaniolo in a statement on their official website:
“Aston Villa can confirm that Nicolo Zaniolo has assisted the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and the relevant authorities in their investigation into allegations of illegal betting activities. The player also met with senior club officials.
Zaniolo has been training normally with the first team squad and is available for selection ahead of this weekend’s game against West Ham United. “The club will not be making any further comments during this ongoing process.”
