Julian Nagelsmann took charge of the German National Team
Julian Nagelsmann took over from coach Hansi Flick, who was fired on September 10 after the German team lost 4-1 to Japan in a friendly match.
The 36-year-old coach became the second youngest coach to coach Germany, host of Euro 2024. The youngest coach in history to coach Germany was Otto Nerz, who took over at the age of 34. Born in 1892, he was Germany coach between 1926 and 1936.
Germany will play friendly matches against the United States and Mexico in October.
HISTORICAL SUCCESS WITH LEIPZIG
Julian Nagelsmann previously coached Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich. The German coach’s name was mentioned this summer at Chelsea, Tottenham and PSG.
The young coach, who had a successful spell at Hoffenheim, signed for Leipzig in 2019. Nagelsmann, who coached Leipzig until 2021, reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League with Leipzig in the 2019-2020 season.
Nagelsmann began coaching Bayern Munich from the 2021-2022 season. The Bavarian team, which signed a five-year contract with Nagelsmann paying a transfer fee of approximately 20 million euros to Leipzig, fired the young coach in March 2023 after his performance was criticized.
