Koke: ‘They can kill me at any moment, but I’m not afraid!’
Koke, former Rayo and Málaga player, spoke on the Canal Plus France Football Club program after serving a prison sentence for drug trafficking.
Former La Liga star Koke admitted he could be killed at any time after being jailed for drug trafficking. The former Málaga, Marseille and Sporting Lisbon forward was sentenced to six years in prison by a Spanish court in May.
Koke was convicted of leading a gang of 30 people that also smuggled cocaine, especially marijuana. Koke, 40 years old and whose real name is Sergio Contreras, has already been in prison for some time. However, he is currently able to stay at his house in Marbella.
“I AM NOT ESCOBAR”
Koke, who nicknamed the famous Colombian drug lord ‘Pablo Escobar’, said: “Life is a bit complicated. You have to pay for stupid things. We need to put an end to this as quickly as possible. I come from a neighborhood in Malaga where all my friends are childhood friends… although I have connections everywhere! “I have connections everywhere, but I am not Pablo Escobar.” he said.
“THE MONEY I EARNED IN 1 YEAR OF FOOTBALL…”
The former soccer player claimed that he earned more than he did from soccer: “When you hear the word international smuggler, you think: ‘What did I do?’ you say. You’re lucky to earn a lot of money as a football player. I earned maybe a million euros a year. In other jobs, in football, you earn in two months the same amount of money that you can earn in a year. “But you’re risking your life,” he said.
“THEY CAN KILL ME BUT I’M NOT AFRAID”
Koke said the following when talking about his prison memories:
“In France they can kill you very quickly for that. They may kill me here in prison, but I’m not afraid. The prison is open for stupid people. “I will go back to prison, I don’t know how long it will be, but I am sentenced until 2027.”
“I knew everyone, but being a footballer doesn’t change anything. There were more French people imprisoned in Spain than in Marseille. “I saw a lot of Olympique Lyon shirts.”
