Djokovic’s historic victory
The victory, the fourth of his 10 finals at Flushing Meadows, capped another remarkable Grand Slam campaign, in which Djokovic won the Australian, French and US Opens and returned to the top of the world rankings updated on Monday.
The 36-year-old Serbian player became the oldest man to win the US Open men’s tournament in the Open Era and the first man to win three Grand Slam tournaments in a season for the fourth time.
This victory was also a measure of revenge for Djokovic.
The second seed entered a packed Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday and looked over the net at Medvedev, who once again stood between him and history, just like two years ago.
The duo last met in the 2021 US Open final, with the Russian player winning his only major trophy, handing the Serbian player a rare Grand Slam defeat.
