Competition that ended years of tension

The ice between India and Pakistan melted at the World Athletics Championships

At the XIX World Championships in Athletics held in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, one of his most prominent challenges was the men’s javelin throw.

The tension between India and Pakistan, which has lasted for years, has this time given way to friendly competition between athletes from the two countries, who are fighting for medals in the javelin throw, at the World Championships in Athletics.

Reaching a distance of 88.17 meters in the men’s javelin, Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra bested Pakistani Arshad Nadeem to become the gold medalist at the World Championships in Athletics. Chopra, the last Olympic champion, who won a silver medal in the organization held in the United States last year, gave India its first gold medal in the championship’s history.

India, who has three medals in the championship’s history, clinched the other title with Anju Bobby George’s bronze medal in the women’s long jump at Paris 2003.

PAKISTAN’S FIRST MEDAL IN ORGANIZATION

Pakistani Arshad Nadeem took the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw with his 87.82m throw in Budapest. Nadeem, who achieved the best individual level of the season in the organization in which he participated overcoming elbow and knee injuries, gave his country his first medal in the history of the championship.

Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem showed friendly attitudes on court after the match, contrary to the tension between the two countries, especially on the cricket grounds.

Chopra invited Nadeem to take a photo with him during the on-track celebrations after the medal ceremony. The two athletes met and posed for the cameras.

Nadeem, for his part, congratulated Chopra on his success in his post-competition statement, expressing his happiness that the two countries have taken the top two steps of the podium. (AA)
