The Newcastle captain was beaten up in a nightclub

Jamaal Lascelles, Newcastle United captain, attacked

British police are investigating a fight in the city center involving Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles, where a group of men allegedly “threatened to shoot” the player and his brother.

Northumbria Police officers were called after the shooting on Westgate Road in Newcastle on Saturday (August 19).

Lascelles had returned to Tyneside after Newcastle’s 1–0 loss to Manchester City and was out for the night with his younger brother and a friend. Eddie Howe gave the team two days off.

They had just left the Chinawhite nightclub when a man reportedly elbowed Lascelles’ 19-year-old brother in the throat. One of the bystanders says that the defender intervened and pushed the man.

PERFORATED LASCELLES

It is alleged that a bottle of vodka was then thrown at Lascelles, narrowly missing his head. A group of “six to eight” people allegedly attacked the 29-year-old and punched him.

He is said to have managed to knock down one of the men, but his brother was “pushed in the face and bled dry”. Meanwhile, one of his friends was kicked in the head and passed out. During the fight, the group allegedly said that they would “shoot” Lascelles.

In video seen by Mail Sport, Lascelles appears to be calling for calm as he leaned over one of the men on the road and was caught off guard and punched in the face. He responds by throwing a punch at the same man.

HE TRIED TO PROTECT HIS BROTHER

Sources say the Nottingham-born star acted in self-defense throughout the incident and was trying to protect his younger brother.

The group had escaped before emergency teams arrived and Lascelles’s friend was taken to hospital.

Bystanders said they feared Lascelles had died as she had been unconscious for 15 minutes while paramedics intervened.

Meanwhile, Newcastle were aware of the incident and saw the video. They said the matter would be dealt with internally.

Lascelles, who joined the club in 2014, was on the bench during Newcastle’s 2-1 home defeat against Liverpool on Sunday. He played 225 times for the Magpies and has been the club’s captain since 2016.
