Spain and England met in the final of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. In the match played at the Australian Stadium, Spain defeated their rival 1-0. Olga Carmona scored the goal that gave the Spanish trophy in the 29th minute.

In a statement after the match, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) said: “The RFEF deeply regrets to report the death of Olga Carmona’s father. The footballer learned the sad news after the World Cup final. We send our deepest condolences to Olga and her family. We love you Olga, you are the history of Spanish football”.
