Caroline Wozniacki returns with a victory after 3 years
Former women’s world number 1 ranked Caroline Wozniacki won her first match after deciding to return to tennis in 2020.
After the 2020 Australian Open, Wozniacki, who ended her active career and gave birth to 2 children, returned to the courts with the Canadian Open Tournament.
Wozniacki, who entered the hard-court tournament in Montreal on a special wild card, faced Kimberly Birrell ranked 115th in the first round.
The 33-year-old Danish racket Wozniacki beat his Australian opponent 2-0 in sets of 6-2 and went away in the return.
Wozniacki will face Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in the second round.
Wozniacki, who won his only Grand Slam title at the 2018 Australian Open, played in the finals of the 2009 and 2014 US Opens.
