Barcelona closes the television channel
The Spanish giant Barcelona stopped broadcasting Barça TV as of June 30, in line with the decision of the Board of Directors.
Eduard Romeu, the Catalan club’s vice president for economic affairs, told the Spanish press: “Everyone knows the economic figures. Television costs 14 million euros, but its income is only 2 million euros. “This was not a sustainable situation,” he said.
Nearly 100 Barça TV employees, who were fired due to the decision to close, have been protesting since April 27.
Barça TV, which began its television career in July 1999, closed its screen after 24 years showing its empty studios and workspaces. From now on, Barcelona will continue to carry out some broadcasts through the “Streaming platform” on the internet with only 14 employees. (AA)
