Christophe Galtier to appear in court on racism allegations
Christophe Galtier, coach of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), one of the French Ligue 1 teams, was arrested as part of a racism investigation.
According to French press reports, Galtier, who was being investigated on suspicion of “discrimination based on racial or religious affiliation”, was detained by Nice police in the morning and gave a statement.
In emails that were leaked to the press but could not be confirmed whether or not they were true, Galtier was said to have complained about “too many black and Muslim players in the squad” while coaching Nice.
The 56-year-old coach, for his part, denied accusations that he made “racist and Islamophobic comments.”
Nice prosecutor Xavier Bonhomme announced that the French coach will appear in court on December 15. If found guilty, Galtier could be sentenced to 3 years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros. (AA)
