Lionel Messi and Tata meet again
Gerardo Martino, nicknamed “Tata”, was appointed as coach of the Inter Miami team of the American Major League Soccer (MLS). According to the club statement, an agreement has been reached with the 60-year-old Argentine coach.
Thus, the paths of star footballer Lionel Messi and Martino crossed for the third time in their careers. The duo had previously worked together for Club Barcelona and the Argentina National Team.
Having won league titles with Paraguay’s Libertad (2002, 2003, 2006) and Cerro Porteño (2004), Martino was named South America’s coach of the year in 2007.
After his career, Martino played for the Paraguayan National Team (2007-2011), the Spanish club Barcelona (2013-2014) and the Argentine National Team (2014-2016).
Martino, who received the MLS best coach award in 2018 when he led Atlanta United to the championship, most recently led the Mexican National Team (2019-2022). (AA)
