Chelsea sign Bundesliga top scorer Christopher Nkunku
Chelsea have officially announced the transfer of Christopher Nkunku, making his first signing of the summer transfer window.
Playing an important role for Leipzig in the 2022-2023 season, Nkunku signed a preliminary contract with Chelsea in December. The transfer of the French player was the most important objective of the then manager Graham Potter and one of the most important expenses of the club owner Todd Boehly in the transfer.
But the Premier League giant have now been able to formalize the 25-year-old’s presence at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea, who paid the release clause of almost 53 million pounds, posted a video on Twitter, “Nkunku is a blue!” He wrote. He then posted a photo that read ‘Welcome to Nkunku’.

NKUNKU IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GO ON THE FIELD
Speaking of his transfer to Chelsea, Nkunku said: “I am incredibly happy to be joining Chelsea. A great effort was made to bring me to the club. I look forward to meeting my new manager and teammates and showing the Chelsea fans what I can do on the pitch. After playing in Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga, now I want to play in the Premier League, one of the strongest leagues in the world. I look forward to this challenge and will wear the Chelsea shirt with pride.” saying.
Nkunku last scored for Leipzig in the DFB Cup final against Eintracht Frankfurt and played a role in the 2-0 win. The 25-year-old said on social media after the match: “It was very nice to share these moments with all of you.” He almost approved of his departure.
THIS SEASON HAS BEEN DEALING WITH INJURIES
Nkunku, who made 172 appearances for the German national team, finished this season with 16 goals, battling injuries.
Despite being permanently sidelined with injuries, Nkunku managed to end the 2022-2023 Bundesliga season as top scorer. He also recorded six assists throughout the season, helping his team to third in the standings.
THEY SHINED IN THE 2021-22 SEASON
However, it was Nkunku’s performance in the 2021-2022 season that caught the eye of Premier League giants Chelsea. The star footballer was among the biggest names in European football by scoring 20 goals and providing 15 assists.
