“Say Goodbye to Football”

Superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic has retired. “It’s time to say ciao to football,” the 41-year-old, visibly touched, said into a stadium microphone Sunday night at Milan’s San Siro Stadium.

The striker said goodbye to his last club, AC Milan, in a small ceremony after beating Hellas Verona 3-1 in the Serie A final matchday. Many teammates on the pitch and countless fans in the stands wept or shed tears on the eyes.

The Swede, who was unable to play due to an injury, was congratulated by Milan fans before the start of the match: they showed the choreography with the words “Goodbye” – a pun on “Goodbye”. He was also greeted with shouts of “Ibrahimovic, Ibrahimovic”. The iconic player reacted visibly excited and thanked the fans with his hands pointing at the heart in their direction. In a short speech, he later said, “I will remain a Milanist for the rest of my life.”
