Fans injure five policemen after match against Servette Sion

Serious riots broke out on Saturday evening at the edge of the Rhone derby between Servette and Sion. Approximately 300 Valais fans attacked the Genevan police with stones and bottles. Five police officers were slightly injured, six were stopped.

After the game, security forces had to push Valais fans to the train station, preventing Geneva fans from attacking them, Geneva police spokesman Alexandre Braillet told Keystone-SDA Sunday. He thus confirmed the online report of the Tribune de Genève.

abrasions and bruises on officials

“Servette fans were trying to get to the north stand, while about 60 people from Sitten wanted to cross paths,” a spokesman said. The clashes continued from 22:45 to 00:10. The train then left with about 700 Sion fans.

Seven police officers received abrasions, bruises and other minor injuries. Six people were temporarily detained. The investigation will be carried out in cooperation with the Valais police to identify other participants in the riots. Brier said the goal is to hold these individuals accountable.

Arsonists and smoke bombs before the game

Difficulties began even before the game. Fireworks were confiscated and three glass doors were smashed. The police had to intervene harshly. Servette fans set off smoke bombs in the city center minutes after the game. But he remained peaceful.
