Turkish coach of the Greece national volleyball team
The Greek Volleyball Federation appointed Yunus Öçal, who still works at AEK, as the head coach of the women’s national team. Making a statement on the subject, Öçal claimed that they met with the federation’s administration two days ago and signed a one-year agreement.
Noting that the process developed very quickly after Marcello Abbondanza left the team and went to South Korea, Öçal said: “They were thinking of me along with some other candidates. With Marcello’s suggestion, they thought I was the right candidate. The fact that they knew me also influenced their decision.” he said.
Stating that they will compete with the Greek national team in the European Championship this summer, Öçal said: “There are tough teams like Turkey, Azerbaijan and Czechia in our group. We have to get out of the group being in the top 4 among the six teams. We have to be results oriented. We will set the staff accordingly. We have talented players. Our first goal is to get out of the group, then we will move forward step by step.” he used the phrases.
The 2023 European Women’s Volleyball Championship will take place between August 15 and September 3, with Belgium, Germany, Italy and Estonia as hosts.
Öçal shared the information that he will continue his duty as the head coach of the AEK women’s volleyball team.
AEK won the Greek Cup for the first time in its history last season under the guidance of experienced coaches. (AA)
