Wimbledon’s decision to help Ukraine

Wimbledon decides to help Ukraine

The management of Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam tennis tournament of the season, is preparing to provide financial aid to Ukraine.

Ian Hewitt, president of the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), organizer of the tournament, said that to support the Ukrainians, one pound sterling will be donated for each ticket and the amount of aid could exceed 500,000 pounds sterling.

AELTC and the Tennis Federation of Great Britain (LTA) will also cover accommodation costs for all Ukrainian athletes who will compete in the main draw or qualifying rounds at Wimbledon. One thousand Ukrainian refugees will also be invited to the tournament, which will take place from July 3 to 16, for one day.

In response to the Russia-Ukraine war, the Wimbledon administration, which did not allow Russian and Belarusian tennis players to compete in the tournament last year, lifted the ban on this year’s tournament. (AA)
