Osasuna, first finalist of the Copa del Rey of Spain
Osasuna, which drew 1-1 with Athletic Bilbao in the semifinal second leg of the Spanish King’s Cup, became the first team to reach the final.
After defeating Athletic Bilbao 1-0 in the first match between the two Basque Country teams in the cup, Osasuna prevailed in the final for the second time in its history with an away draw.
Athletic took a 1-0 lead after Iñaki Williams scored in the 33rd minute. When regulation time ended with this score, Osasuna scored with Pablo Ibáñez Lumbreras in the 116th minute of the game, which went into extra time, and reached the final with a draw in a tough away game.
In this cup, Osasuna only reached the final in the 2004-2005 season and lost 2-1 against Real Betis.
Athletic, the second team that took the trophy to its museum the most times with 23 occasions, missed the opportunity to reach the final for the third time in the last 4 seasons.
THE OTHER FINALIST WILL BE ANNOUNCED AFTER THE CLASSIC
On the other hand, the other semifinal match of the cup will be played between the teams of Barcelona and Real Madrid on April 5 at the Camp Nou Stadium.
In the first game of Spain’s two arch-rivals, called El Clásico, in the semi-finals, Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 1-0 away.
The club that won the most Copa del Rey with 31 occasions is Barcelona, followed by Athletic Bilbao (23) and Real Madrid (19).
The new winner of the trophy will be determined in the final match to be played at the La Cartuja Stadium in Seville on May 6. (AA)
