Conditional license for Russian and Belarusian athletes at Wimbledon
Russian and Belarusian tennis players will participate as “neutral” athletes at Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam tournament of the season.
In a statement from the All England Club, the organizer of the tournament, it was announced that Russian and Belarusian athletes were denied the right to represent their countries at this year’s tournament and were allowed to compete fairly.
Men’s world number 6 Daniil Medvedev of Russia and women’s world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus are the top-ranked players from the two countries.
In the statement, All England Club chairman Ian Hewitt said: “We continue to utterly condemn Russia’s illegal occupation and continue to support the Ukrainian people with all our hearts.” he used the phrases.
Russian and Belarusian athletes were banned from participating in the tournament held last year.
Wimbledon, hosted by England’s capital London, will take place from July 3-16 this year. (AA)
