Lionel Messi made history
Lionel Messi, who hit the post with two free kicks in the preparation match played between Argentina and Panama at the Monumental Stadium in the Capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires, blew up the nets in the 89th minute and reached his club’s 800th goal and national team career. The other goal for Argentina was scored by Thiago Almada in the 78th minute.
In his post-match speech, Messi said: “I want to thank all the fans for the love they showed not only after the World Cup, but also at the Copa América. We said that we would give everything for this trophy.”
RONALDO REACHES IN DECEMBER 2021
Argentine soccer players took photos in front of the World Cup before kick-off, while Messi, coach Lionel Scaloni and other players brought their families to the stadium.
According to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), Messi is the second player to reach 800 goals in his career, after the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo. The 38-year-old Portuguese star scored his 800th goal in December 2021.
672 GOALS TO BARCELONA
The 35-year-old Messi played 778 games and scored 672 goals for Barcelona, where he spent 17 years of his career. The Argentine star has scored 30 goals for the French team since he joined Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2021.
Messi, who lifted the World Cup for the first time in Qatar, has 98 goals with the national team, in addition to 7 goals here. (AA)
