Good news from Martina Navratilova
Martina Navratilova, the tennis player who has won the most championships in the open period (since 1968) with 167 individual tournaments won, was the guest of the program “Piers Morgan Uncensored” on the British television channel TalkTV.
Sharing that she was diagnosed with throat and breast cancer in January, but that it was at an early stage, Navratilova, 66, explained that she thought she would not see next Christmas after the diagnosis, saying: “I was in a panic for three days. I came up with a list of everything I wanted to do. It may sound shallow to people, but I think, ‘If I live a year or so, what wonderful car would I want to drive?’ I asked the question,” she said.
Navratilova, who managed to beat breast cancer in 2010, stated that the process of radiotherapy and chemotherapy was the most difficult period of her life, saying: “According to the doctors, I am free of cancer.”
In the 1970s and 1980s, Navratilova won 59 Grand Slam titles, 18 of them in singles, and rose to the top of the world rankings in both singles and doubles. (AA)
