After impressing earlier this week by selling goaltender Jonathan Quick to Columbus (and watching him make the move to Vegas), the Kings made few low-impact deals before the NHL trade deadline that ended on Friday ended with little fanfare and few big names that have changed. uniforms.
As it came down to the West, the Ducks continued their rebuilding, moving defenseman John Klingberg to Minnesota and defenseman Dmitry Kulikov to Pittsburgh.
The Kings were basically done after addressing their biggest problems by acquiring goaltender Joonas Korpisalo and defender Vladislav Gavrikov from Columbus, a transaction announced Wednesday.
So many high-profile moves were made in the days leading up to the deadline — including Jakob Chychrun’s move from Arizona to Ottawa and Patrick Kane’s move from Chicago to the New York Rangers — that the deadline was unusually quiet.
The Kings traded lively but underused forward Brendan Lemieux and a 2024 fifth-round forward Zach MacEwen to the Philadelphia Flyers. And in a minor league trade, they bought forward Nate Schnarr from the Montreal Canadiens for defenseman Frederic Allard.
They also traded minor league forward Austin Wagner to the Blackhawks for future consideration.
The Ducks received lefty Brock McGinn and a 2024 third-round pick from the Penguins for Kulikov. They kept 50% of Kulikov’s salary.
For Klingberg, who signed a one-year contract with the Ducks as a free agent last summer but damaged his trade value with his poor defensive play with a terrible defensive team, the Ducks earned a 2025 fourth-round pick – draft pick from Minnesota, Boston College Center Nikita Nesterenko and defender Andrei Suster. The Ducks kept 50% of Klingberg’s salary with the deal.
The Ducks also purchased defenseman Chase Priskie from Buffalo for defenseman Austin Strand.
The closing date for entries was Friday afternoon Pacific Time. The NHL said 21 deals with 34 players were closed on Friday.
