The referee who made a mistake in the Premier League retires

Premier League referee Lee Mason retires

The English referee Lee Mason, who came to the agenda with his mistake in the Arsenal-Brentford match played in the English Premier League and which ended 1-1, has retired.

“We thank Lee for his dedicated service to the professional game and wish him success in the future,” the British Association of Professional Referees (PGMOL) said in a statement. It was said.

In the statement, it was noted that Mason, 51, will no longer play in the Premier League.

Mason was charged with breaking the rules in the Arsenal-Brentford match, where he served as a video assistant referee, checking Ivan Toney’s 74th-minute goal for offside that tied the visitors 1-1.

Reacting to the decision, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: “It’s not a human error, it’s not knowing your job. It cost Arsenal two points that can’t be recovered,” he said.

After losing to Manchester City 3-1 after Brentford’s draw, Arsenal lost the lead to Pep Guardiola’s team.

Working as a Premier League referee for 15 years, Mason officiated 287 games. (AA)
