Words from Pep Guardiola, Arsenal and Mikel Arteta: He wasn’t happy when he scored
Pep Guardiola says Mikel Arteta could be Manchester City manager but is impatient for the job at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola gave Arteta his first coaching experience when he was appointed to Manchester City in 2016. Arteta, who received a managerial offer from Arsenal in December 2019, embarked on a new adventure after serving as Guardiola’s second man for almost two and a half years.
Speaking about Arteta, Guardiola stated that if the Spanish manager were with him, he would have been able to sit in the manager’s seat at City:
“If I had left the position earlier, I am confident that I would continue here and it would definitely be the best option. But I extended my contract, I’m sorry and he didn’t wait.”
“WHEN WE BEAT ARSENAL…”
“He loves Arsenal. I remember when we were here together and we scored goals. I was happy with all but one team. Every time we scored against Arsenal, the whole team was jumping for joy, but Arteta was sitting down.
“I UNDERSTAND THAT MOMENT…”
“I knew at that moment that Arteta loved Arsenal. If I work as an assistant and he calls me Barcelona, I go. That’s my club.”
