George Cohen, who was part of the England national soccer team’s 1966 World Cup-winning squad, has died at the age of 83. The Fulham Club, where Cohen played throughout his career, announced the death of the former English footballer.
Cohen, who made 459 appearances for Fulham between 1956 and 1969, gave up football at the age of 30 due to a knee injury.
One of the important right-backs bred in English football, Cohen played 37 times for the national team, where he won the World Cup championship.
George Cohen was awarded the Order of the British Empire MBE in 2000 for his contribution to football.
In addition, the Fulham Club erected a statue of Cohen in front of Craven Cottage Stadium in 2016, honoring the former soccer player for the 50th anniversary of the 1966 World Cup. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
