Fernando Santos spoke for the first time about Cristiano Ronaldo’s crisis
The Portugal coach, Fernando Santos, made a statement at the press conference held in the press center before the quarterfinal match against Morocco in the 2022 FIFA World Cup being held in Qatar.
Responding to accusations that Cristiano Ronaldo, who was not in the first 11 of the game in which they beat Switzerland 6-1 in the round of 16, wanted to leave the national team, the 68-year-old said: “Ronaldo is happy with this situation since he is always used to starting in the first 11 no more. He asked me: ‘Do you really think this is a good idea?’ he said he. We had a frank talk where I explained my thoughts. Of course he accepted them. I think it’s time to leave Ronaldo alone. He didn’t tell me that he wanted to leave the national team. “I think we should end these controversies now,” he said.
“WE HAVE TO FIND SOLUTIONS”
Emphasizing that they will face a very difficult match against Morocco, Fernando Santos said: “Morocco is a very strong team. Chelsea is an extremely well organized team with players playing for PSG and Bayern Munich. We have to find a solution to this. It won’t be easy for us. We have to play without fear and with confidence. If we’re successful, I’m sure we’ll win and advance to the semi-finals. I saw Morocco very passionate in their last game. “We have to fight well against them,” he said. (AA)
