Tyson Fury retains WBC heavyweight belt
Britain’s Tyson Fury defeated his compatriot Derek Chisora to retain the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight title.
Fury, who won the fight at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in London, the capital of England by a wide margin, was declared the winner when the referee stopped the match in the 10th round due to physical damage to his 38-year-old opponent. The boxer, nicknamed the “Gypsy King”, who scored the 33rd victory of his career in the fight followed by nearly 60,000 sports fans, continued his undefeated run.
The 34-year-old British boxer had the only draw of his career against American Deontay Wilder, whom he went on to defeat twice. Chisora, on the other hand, took his 13th loss in game 46.
Oleksandr Usyk of Ukraine, one of Fury’s potential opponents, the holder of the World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Organization (WBO), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) heavyweight belts. International Boxing Organization (IBO) followed from the stands.
Tyson Fury challenged Usyk, who entered the ring late in the match, signaling possible matches for the next year. (AA)
