Valencia close to a unique record

Enner Valencia could set an unprecedented record in World Cup history

Fenerbahce’s Enner Valencia, who is the top scorer (3) of the 2022 World Cup, is very close to the tournament date.

Valencia, who rocked Qatar’s net twice in the opening game and finally scored in the match in which they drew 1-1 with the Netherlands, went down in history as the name that scored Ecuador’s last six goals in the World Cup. Valencia, which is currently the top scorer in the World Cup, is on the verge of a record that no one has ever reached in the history of football.

Valencia, who scored goals against Switzerland (1) and Honduras (2) in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, could not appear in this tournament due to Ecuador’s non-participation in the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The 33-year-old striker, who started the organization in Qatar with two goals and did not miss the Netherlands, scored the last 6 goals for Ecuador in the cup.

VALENCIA CAN ACHIEVE THE FIRST IN HISTORY

Ecuador, which has collected 4 points from two games, is in the leading seat of Group A, but will play a critical game against Senegal in its last game. Ecuador, who will advance if not defeated by Senegal, and Valencia can also achieve a first in the history of the tournament, which began in 1930. If Valencia shake Senegal’s nets, they will be the first and only player to score seven consecutive goals in World Cup matches.

Among Qatari players, the top scorers in the World Cup are:

  • Muller: 10 goals
  • Cristiano: 8 goals
  • Suarez: 7 goals
  • Messi: 7 goals
  • VALENCIA: 6 goals
  • Kane: 6 goals
  • Neymar: 6 goals
  • Perisic: 5 goals
  • Lukaku: 5 goals
  • Cavani: 5 goals

VALENCIA AMONG THE LEGENDS…

Valencia also managed to take its place among the all-time scorers with 6 goals in a row. Portuguese legend Eusebio scored six straight goals at the 1966 World Cup in England, while Italian Paolo Rossi had the same success at the 1982 Spanish tournament. At the 1994 World Cup in the US, Russian striker Oleg Salenko scored six goals in two games. Salenko managed to become the top scorer in a match, scoring 5 goals against Cameroon.

TALKS ABOUT HIS INJURY

On the other hand, it became known that Enner Valencia, who was injured in the last minute of the match against the Netherlands and left the field on a stretcher, could be on the field in the match against Senegal. Speaking about his injury, Valencia said: “I had tests done after the Qatar game. I have a sprained knee and am in some pain. Today I played with the pain. The most important thing is to stay strong by thinking big.”
