Marjolein Moorman possibly in The Hague Related articles

Amsterdam PvdA councilor Marjolein Moorman is considering moving into national politics. The education councilor told Amsterdam’s AT5 channel that it “certainly tickles to give this country a different course” and “I’m going to think very deeply about whether I’m the one who should set that course.”

Moorman’s name has been mentioned more and more recently as a possible leader of the upcoming PvdA-GroenLinks list combination in the upcoming elections. A merger of the two lists is currently under a vote, Moorman says he hopes both lists will merge. He says he finds it “really necessary” that we will make this breakthrough. He points to the “huge” opportunity to achieve a different course.

Last year, Amsterdam’s PvdA became the largest party in municipal elections, nearly doubling from 5 to 9 seats. There has even been talk of the “Marjolein Moorman effect”, because the profit has been attributed primarily to Moorman’s popularity. The party leader received nearly 43,000 votes, the most of any candidate in the Netherlands. She is known for her fight against inequality of opportunity.

However, Moorman’s name isn’t the only one that’s been buzzing. Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb and European commissioner Frans Timmermans are also mentioned as possible leaders of the left-wing cooperation party.
