The youth party D66 supports the motion of no confidence against Rutte

D66’s youth party believes Prime Minister Mark Rutte should leave immediately. The Young Democrats are asking D66 to support a no-confidence motion against the prime minister and VVD leader if it goes to a vote on Monday in a debate over the fall of the government.

“Rutte puts his party’s interest above the national interest,” says Young Democrats chair Kalle Duvekot. “It is irresponsible to leave the coalition now for electoral reasons.” The cabinet fell on Friday as the coalition failed to agree on an approach to migration.

According to Duvekot, issues such as climate action and housing cannot wait. “If you put your campaign before progress, you are not worthy of the prime minister,” says the president of the Young Democrats.

When Rutte leaves, musical chairs seem inevitable

If one of the coalition parties supports the upcoming no-confidence motion against Mark Rutte, it could result in a full musical chair. This is what parliamentary history professor Bert van den Braak of Maastricht University says. Today the opposition wants to oust Mark Rutte immediately, but needs the support of one of the coalition parties. According to Van den Braak, Rutte’s departure could herald an exodus of VVD ministers. “Then you have 11 vacancies that need to be filled.”

“The campaign has begun”

It is an open competition for the CDA, said political journalist Mats Akkerman in response to Wopke Hoekstra’s announcement that he was unavailable as CDA party leader, while housing minister Hugo de Jonge also withdrew on Saturday. Names such as Derk Boswijk and Mona Keijzer are mentioned, but nothing is certain yet. In any case, the campaign has begun, thinks Akkerman.

The opposition wants Rutte to resign immediately

After his fourth cabinet falls, outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte can expect another no-confidence vote, largely supported by the opposition. If that motion is approved, Rutte also will not be able to remain as caretaker. The support of one of the coalition parties is required for the majority, and it is highly questionable whether they will take this step.

Wopke Hoekstra is no longer available as CDA party leader

Wopke Hoekstra is not available for CDA guidance. You said so in an interview with De Telegraaf. He says he made the decision some time ago and doesn’t think it’s a given that his name will be on the electoral roll for the House of Representatives.
