Imelda Padilla, a community advocate, and Marisa Alcaraz, a top adviser to City Councilman Curren Price, received the most votes in April’s primary for the District 6 seat.
The districts include all or part of the Lake Balboa, Van Nuys, Panorama City, Arleta, North Hills, North Hollywood, and Sun Valley neighborhoods. The areas have been without representation since Martinez, who was council president at the time, resigned after an audio tape of her making racial slurs was leaked.
Her resignation led to a special election for the San Fernando Valley seat, where Padilla and Alcaraz defeated five other opponents after Padilla received 25.7% of the vote, while Alcaraz received 21.1%. However, their failure to gain 50% of the vote forced the two to a runoff election on June 27.
Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean C. Logan said the easiest way to enter the election was to return the ballot by mail, free of postage, or vote in person on an official ballot . dropbox or voting center.
With just two weeks left until the election, some district voters have already cast their ballots in the majority Latino district.
As of Friday, 6,947 mail-in ballots had been returned in the election, according to the Los Angeles County Registrar Recorders’ Office.
