PvdA and GroenLinks want clarity on tough occupations in pension law Related articles

In Monday’s Senate debate on the new pension law, PvdA and GroenLinks want clarity for seniors with heavy occupations. The parties are asking Pensions Minister Carola Schouten to promise that there will be a permanent deal so that people who do hard jobs can retire earlier. This was confirmed by PvdA senator Ferd Crone after a message from RTL Nieuws.

The left-wing tandem also asks Schouten to give pension funds more time to make the transition to the new system. Funds have until 2027 for this. This was postponed earlier, because the processing of the pension law also took longer than expected. (ANP / Robin Utrecht)

Schouten must sit down with employers and unions to arrive at such an agreement, Crone says. There is currently a temporary scheme, which expires in 2025. Previously, the House of Representatives also called for a scheme to ensure that people doing hard work after 2025 can retire earlier. These people deserve clarity, says the Senate member. “This must be done in time, otherwise it will be too late.”

Decisive

Crone doesn’t yet want to say whether these points are a condition for supporting GroenLinks and PvdA. Left-wing parties, other than SGP and Volt, were the only opposition parties to vote in favor of the pension law. Since the coalition does not have a majority in the Senate, the support of the PvdA or of GroenLinks – who already cooperate almost fully – is decisive.

Tomorrow and Tuesday the Senate will debate the law that makes a new pension system possible. This is a very broad reform, which should make the system more future-proof.
