Smallest Intruder: Toddler crawls through White House gate

April 18, 2023

A curious toddler earned the title of one of the White House’s smallest intruders on Tuesday after squeezing through the metal fencing on the north side of the executive mansion.

Agents of the United States Secret Service Uniformed Division, responsible for White House security, walked the North Lawn to

dead boy

and reunite him with his parents on Pennsylvania Avenue. Access to the complex was briefly restricted while officers carried out the reunification. Officers briefly questioned the parents before allowing them to continue on their way.

Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said agents encountered a curious young visitor along the north fence of the White House who briefly entered the White House grounds.

White House security systems immediately activated Secret Service agents, and the toddler and parents were quickly reunited, he said in a statement.

It may be the first successful break-in at the complex since the White House fence doubled in height to about 4 meters

(3.96 meters)

in recent years after a series of security breaches. Although the new fence is taller, it has an extra inch of space between the pickets, for a total of 5 inches

(12.7 centimeters)

between posts.

Older children have sometimes gotten stuck in the

iconic

barrier, where demonstrations have also taken place, with demonstrators chaining themselves to the fence.
