Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said Saturday he was released from the rehabilitation center where he received physical therapy for a concussion caused by a fall earlier this month.
81-year-old Kentucky
Republican legislator
said in a statement from his office that he will be working from home for the next several days. In the weeks of April 3 and 10, the Senate is on vacation.
McConnell was eating dinner on March 8 after a hotel reception for a campaign committee working with him when he tripped and fell. In addition to the concussion, he also had a rib fracture.
He was released from the hospital on March 13 and, on the advice of his doctor, moved to an inpatient rehabilitation facility for physical therapy and to continue his recovery.
Concussions can be serious injuries and take time to recover. Even a single incident of concussion can limit a person’s abilities during that time.

I’m going to follow my physical therapists’ advice and work from home for Kentuckians and the Republican Conference for the next few days,” McConnell said in the statement. I am in regular contact with my colleagues in the Senate and my staff. I look forward to returning to the Senate in person soon.
Nearly four years ago, he tripped and fell at his Kentucky home, sustaining a fractured shoulder that required surgery. The Senate had just begun a summer recess and he was working from home for a while
some
weeks when he recovered.
He had polio in his early childhood and acknowledged that he had some difficulty climbing stairs as an adult.
McConnell was first elected in 1984. In January, he became the longest-serving Senate Majority Leader when the new Congress convened, breaking the previous record of 16 years.
