The CDA, on the other hand, is pushing for adjustments, especially after the poor election results. Already yesterday the party discussed the electoral results extensively and then it was also said that the 2030 deadline is not sacred as far as the Board is concerned.
This was explicitly discussed again during a group meeting earlier today. Akkerman spoke to party leader Heerma after the meeting. He said he wasn’t aiming for a government crisis. But if D66 holds his ground then it will be interesting.’
BBB frontwoman Caroline van der Plas said today she expects a down the toilet “this year”. Van der Plas said this after his conversation with VVD leader and Prime Minister Mark Rutte. The two spoke in Wassenaar in the De Landbouw restaurant. ‘A common VVD and so indeed The best of both worlds‘, says Akkermann.
“If D66 holds up, then it will be interesting”
Van der Plas: ‘He congratulated me again on the result. I raised the crisis of confidence among the coalition partners and asked if he and the coalition see what is happening in the country. Normally people stay at home, but now they have made their voices heard.’ According to Van der Plas, the situation within the coalition has become ‘unsustainable’. He therefore believes that new elections will be held by the end of the year.
According to Akkerman, the crisis of confidence in the coalition has been brought up several times by Van der Plas. “He said to Rutte: do something about it!” Rutte himself doesn’t want to say much about the conversation, except that it was “enjoyable.”

Frustrating
According to the BoerBurgerBeweging, the coalition will have to do something with the election results. “They can’t just ignore it,” Akkerman says. “He finds it frustrating that now suddenly there is room in the coalition.” Van der Plas: ‘Suddenly things are possible at the VVD and the CDA. I wonder why it hasn’t been possible in recent years. They have been through the press of the coalition agreement, but the election results are clear.’
In Van der Plas’ eyes, the cabinet should make an emergency law for the nitrogen crisis “because the country is completely socio-economically and socially locked down.” According to Van der Plas it is not a matter of not being able to do it, but of not wanting to.
Crisis meeting at the Board of Directors
Later today, the CDA will talk again about the future of the party after last week’s disastrous electoral defeat. ‘Provincial administrators will criticize the state of affairs and the position of leader Wopke Hoekstra will also be discussed. But according to party chairman Heerma, there is still enough support for him within the party. So he’ll probably mostly listen to criticism.’
Heerma went on to say that “you can’t drive with your fingers in your ears.” But you can’t do everything differently from one day to the next.’ The party is also expected to speak more often about the future of the party in the coming weeks, Akkerman predicts.
