Van der Tak believes the cabinet is setting “the targets too high” with the current nitrogen policy. “I think the livestock halving goal, the nitrogen plan, and further reduction are all unrealistic.” The LTO foreman believes that the course should therefore be changed.
More realistic policy
However, the nitrogen plans cannot be abandoned completely. The Cabinet is bound by court rulings and is therefore forced to introduce a certain direction in nitrogen policy. Van der Tak has difficulty with the precision with which these goals are formulated. “It really needs to change, now there are issues relating to 2030, while the previous government was talking about 2035. We need a more realistic policy”
Provinces must submit their nitrogen plans on July 1. There’s a good chance the BBB has a hand in those plans. But the coalition can also choose to take a different route by collaborating with the left flank, for example with the combination of GroenLinks and PvdA. If it depends on the LTO foreman, this combination is possible for other matters, but not when it comes to farmers and the countryside.
