GroenLinks: ‘We can see this as a win’ Related posts

According to GroenLinks leader Jesse Klaver, the provincial council elections can safely be seen as a victory. “We wanted to be the greatest, and if we can do that by gaining one more place than now, it really feels like a win,” he told BNR.

Klaver defines a realistic option that from now on the majority in the Senate will have to overcome the left. “If I look quickly at the Senate reports now, it’s counterclockwise through us (GroenLinks and PvdA, ed.) or clockwise through the BBB,” he says. This is the fastest way to get the majority. We will fight very hard because it concerns the left.’

Despite the political landslide in the form of the BBB, Klaver is not afraid of a dead end. “We have indicated to the voters that we want to ensure an ambitious climate policy, that we strengthen nature in the Netherlands and that we solve poverty,” she continues. ‘We will fight for this.’

The first test balloon for the Labor Party partnership was therefore a success for Klaver. He says the victory is due to cooperation between the two sides. “We tried not to let the progressive voice get shattered and really stick together,” he concludes. “I’m really glad it worked out.”

As for Klaver, this cooperation will also continue in parliamentary elections in two years’ time, although he does not want to delve into what such cooperation could look like. “I am always in favor of closer cooperation, but I will not say anything yet on how we will do it in view of the parliamentary elections.”
