Ex-Trump Attorney Jenna Ellis Censored After Admitting Repeated Election Truths

Jenna Ellis, a former attorney for Donald Trump’s reelection campaign and a prominent conservative media figure, has been censured by Colorado legal officials after she admitted to making repeated false statements about the 2020 presidential election.

Ellis acknowledged making 10 misrepresentations on television and Twitter during Trump’s fight to stay in power after losing President Biden’s 2020 election, according to censorship from the attorney’s office in Colorado, where Ellis is from . The statements include a claim on Jeanine Pirro’s Fox News show on Dec. 1. 5, 2020, that we have more than 500,000 votes [in Arizona] who were illegally cast and who told conservative network Newsmax on Dec. 11. 15 that Trump was the real and deserved winner.

On November 20, 2020, Ellis appeared on former Trump spokesman Sean Spicer’s Newsmax show and said, With all those states [Nevada, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia] combined we know the election was stolen from President Trump and we can prove it.

Ellis was one of many prominent conservative voices in the final weeks of 2020 who repeated Trump’s lies that the election was stolen from him. Those falsehoods helped fuel the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Defendant’s conduct undermined the confidence of the American public in the presidential election and violated its duty of candor to the public, wrote Bryon M. Large, the disciplinary judge in the case.

Ellis becomes the latest pro-Trump attorney sanctioned for their attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Nine Michigan attorneys were ordered in 2021 to pay $175,000 in penalties for a mock trial to overturn that swing state’s election. Disciplinary counsel for the District of Columbia Bar Association in December called for former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani’s license to be suspended for pursuing an unfounded lawsuit against Biden’s win in Pennsylvania.

Ellis is based in Washington, DC, but is from Colorado and has also practiced in the state. Through her attorney, Michael Melito, she negotiated both the findings of misrepresentation and the censorship. Melito did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
