D66: No coalition in provinces with BBB, JA21 and PVV Related articles

The twelve leaders of the D66 party for the provincial council elections exclude from the formation of the coalition the parties that want to block the government’s nitrogen and climate targets. In a joint statement they mention the BBB, JA21 and PVV. “Achieving the nitrogen and climate goals is our number one priority,” the party leaders write.

“That’s what these provincial elections are for. This is our commitment in the coalition negotiations that will follow”.

Bus stopped

«In electoral debates and in electoral talks they are not wrong: they want to park their bus in our provinces, right in front of the nitrogen and climate targets. We don’t want to go down that dead end. We want to move forward’, say the twelve provincial leaders of the D66 party in their joint statement which will go online on Monday morning.

The D66 party leaders refer to statements made by the three parties in the election debate on Radio 1 on Friday and in an interview with JA21 on NU.nl. ‘BBB breaks the implementation of the nitrogen approach by Christianne van der Wal (Minister for Nature and Nitrogen, ed) and JA21 breaks the climate acceleration by Rob Jetten (Minister for the climate, ed)’, write the D66 ‘ers. “The PVV doesn’t even acknowledge that there is a climate and nitrogen problem to solve.”

‘And it is precisely for that party that VVD and CDA are reopening the doors of the coalition in Limburg. This endangers the clear course taken by the Netherlands,’ write the D66 members.

D66 members want to cooperate in the provinces with parties that, like D66, opt for nature, want to save the climate and become independent of ‘oil and gas from unpalatable regimes’. ‘The parties blocking the approach to nitrogen and climate will find us right in front of them. Those parties are fooling voters.”
