The ministers write it in an action plan against sexually transgressive behavior sent to the Chamber. The cabinet wants to release 11 million euros for this. Laws and regulations should prevent people from crossing the border and should also ensure they are punished quicker if they do.
“The action plan aims to raise awareness of what sexual violence is and how to deal with it,” said Minister Van Gennip. ‘It consists of five lines of action, which we must all implement together. Government, employers, sports organisations, cultural organisations, but also the people themselves.’
Collection
The plan is a collection of actions and ideas, some of which have already been announced and are under preparation. For example, several studies are underway on the problem and possible solutions, for example on sexually transgressive behavior in the dance, education and street sectors.
Van Gennip cites better definition of values and norms as an example. “What is and isn’t accepted, for example,” he says. “We have to be able to have that conversation with each other and we have to be honest with each other. The next question is what to do with it if things go wrong, until the possible culprits are prosecuted.’
Definition
Minister Dilan Yeşilgöz (Security and Justice) already sent a proposal to the House of Representatives in October last year to broaden the definition of a sexual offence. For example, it should also become a crime to have sex with someone knowing or suspecting the other person did not want to, even if there is no coercion.
