Minister Dijkgraaf on DWDD abuse: never received signals Related articles

In the time he sat regularly at the DWDD table, Minister Robbert Dijkgraaf (Education, Culture and Science) “never learned anything” about the insecure work culture that allegedly prevailed there. “All this is new to me,” says the minister, who has also delivered several science lectures under the banner of the talk show that was very popular at the time.

“I find it painful to see that people have not only been insecure, but have also suffered harm,” says the minister of the revelations that have been made to de Volkskrant despite this. The newspaper noted from dozens of former employees that there was a dangerous working atmosphere in the newsroom, mainly caused by Matthijs van Nieuwkerk. For example, it was about “public humiliation” by the presenter.

‘more remote’

When asked, Dijkgraaf says he was a little more distant from DWDD’s editors when preparing his science lessons, which he worked on “with my team” for “a full year.” Earlier this week, the minister declined to answer questions about the matter.

The Minister welcomes the DWDD revelations as a reason in many places to discuss workplace insecurity. He refers to his ministry’s state secretary Gunay Uslu (Media) for the cabinet’s role in this. “It is also in talks with the public broadcaster, which is now also taking action”.
