Card payments reached 836.4 billion lira in October
The Interbank Card Center (BKM) announced its data for October.
Accordingly, in October, the number of credit cards in Turkey was 113.9 million, the number of debit cards was 186.2 million and the number of prepaid cards was 85.8 million. Compared to October last year, the number of credit cards increased by 18 percent, the number of debit cards increased by 12 percent and the number of prepaid cards increased by 25 percent. The total number of cards reached 385.9 million, an increase of 16 percent compared to the same period last year.
The total amount of payments made with credit, debit and prepaid cards in October increased by 122 percent compared to the same period last year and reached 836.4 billion lira. While 683.6 billion lira in card payments were made with credit cards, 137.3 billion lira were made with debit cards and 15.5 billion lira were prepaid cards.
CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS INCREASED BY 129 PERCENT
The growth rate in payments made by credit card compared to the same period of the previous year was 129 percent, and 89 percent in payments made by debit card, while this rate was 126 percent in the payments made with prepaid cards.
The total number of payments made with credit, debit and prepaid cards in October increased by 26 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.4 billion. While 789.9 million card payments were made with credit cards, 548.5 million with debit cards and 100.6 million with prepaid cards.
The growth rate in the number of payments made with credit cards was 28 percent compared to the same period last year, 22 percent in the number of payments made with debit cards, while this rate was 36 percent in the number of payments made with prepaid cards. .
Online card payment was estimated at 237 billion lira. 3 out of every 4 card payments made in establishments were made contactless.
