Employees are considering raising the minimum wage

What will be the minimum wage and when will it be announced?

While the cost of living increases day by day, the minimum wage decreases day by day. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made statements regarding the increase in the minimum wage, which is expected to take place soon.

HOW MUCH WILL THE MINIMUM WAGE BE?

The minimum wage has not yet been determined, but it is expected to be slightly above the hunger threshold.

According to the calculation made by TÜRK-İŞ, the monthly food expenditure (hunger limit) that a family of four living in Ankara must make to have a healthy, balanced and adequate diet increased to 13,684 TL in October.

The hunger limit is expected to reach 15,000 lira by the end of the year.

WHEN WILL THE MINIMUM WAGE BE DECLARED?

The minimum wage will be determined as a result of meetings that will be held in December with the participation of workers, employers and representatives of the Ministry.

The minimum wage is determined by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which is made up of 15 people, including five representatives of workers, employers and the government, as required by law. The Commission meets four times in December, as is customary, as part of its efforts to determine the new minimum wage.

The commission, chaired by one of the members determined by the Ministry, meets with the participation of at least 10 members and decides by majority vote. In case of equality of votes, the presiding party is assumed to have the majority.

THE MINIMUM WAGE MEANS

The increases granted to workers, civil servants and retirees in early July, including those granted on a pro rata basis, evaporated in the face of inflation. Wage increases that were applied literally by the spoonful in July were recouped through taxes and price increases. Due to the high inflation experienced in the last 4 months since July, the worker with the lowest minimum wage lost 3.93 lira, the retired worker with the minimum wage lost 3,850 lira and the retired civil servant with the lowest salary lost 2,348 lira.

ERDOĞAN’S MINIMUM WAGE STATEMENT

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a statement regarding the minimum wage.

“As you know, the minimum wage issue has its own timetable,” Erdogan said, adding: “We relieved our workers with a provisional increase, and now I believe that we will bring workers and employers together and find the most reasonable solution.” “.
