The cost of the US automobile workers’ strike exceeded $10 billion

In the US, the cost of the United Automobile Workers Union (UAW) strike against three major automakers is estimated to have reached $10.4 billion in six weeks.

Michigan-based economic consulting firm Anderson Economic Group (AEG) shared its latest analysis on the “Stand Up” strike launched by workers affiliated with the United Auto Workers Union against General Motors (GM), Ford and Stellantis.

The AEG statement states that the direct cost of the auto workers’ strike is estimated at $10.4 billion over six weeks.

Approximately $650 million of this cost was claimed to be due to wage losses, $4.3 billion to producer losses, $3.3 billion to supplier losses, and $2 billion to distributor losses. , customers and other losses.

The statement reported that the number of workers laid off before the union reached temporary agreements with 3 automakers exceeded 56,000.

The strike began on September 15, and for the first time in the union’s 88-year history, workers at three auto companies went on strike together.
