Belgian unions ask their members not to carry weapons to Israel
Transport workers unions in Belgium asked their members working in ports and airports to prevent the loading of weapons produced in the country to be sent to Israel.
The appeal addressed to members of the AVC Puls, BTB, BBTK and ACV-Transcom unions organized in the transport sector in Belgium, one of the main arms producing countries, said: “As the genocide continues in Palestine, the Workers at Belgium’s airports and ports see weapons going to the battlefield. Carrying these weapons contributes to the killing of innocent people.” Expressions were used.
Therefore, unions in the ground handling and transport sector asked their members not to load military cargo bound for Israel.
Rules introduced to prevent arms shipments to Russia at the start of the Russia-Ukraine war were claimed to have made such action possible.
The unions’ statement on the issue also called for an immediate ceasefire, saying: “We demand that the federal and local governments of Belgium be consistent and do not allow arms shipments from Belgian airports and ports.” The statement was included. (AA)
