Anchovy price dropped in Rize
The fishermen’s stalls in Rize were filled with anchovies and their price dropped to 30 lira. Merchants announced the drop in prices with banners and appealed to citizens.
The general hunting ban for bottom trawl and purse seine fishing, which began on April 15, ended on September 1.
The fishermen said ‘Vira bismillah’ and took their nets to the sea. During the fish season, which opened with horse mackerel, stalls also introduced anchovies early. While anchovy, caught in large quantities, was sold at the beginning of the season for 150 lire per kilo, these days its price has dropped to 30 lire. The price of the box was 300 lire.
Ali Şimşek, a fisherman from Pazar district in Rize, announced the abundance of anchovies with banners hanging from his stall. Words such as: “Insurance for the price of 100 grams of doner”, “The boss is crazy”, “Eat people”, “Inform the neighbors” were read on the bills. (DHA)
