Treasury aid of 6.7 billion Turkish liras to five parties
The amount of state aid that the Treasury must grant to political parties has become clear. According to data from the 2024 draft budget, 3.341 million lira in state aid will be provided next year to five political parties that exceed the 7 percent threshold.
Since local elections will be held next year, the aid will be doubled, i.e. 6 billion 682 million lire.
The AKP will again receive most of the aid. Before the elections, 2 billion 638 million lira will enter the AKP coffers. Of the state aid, 1 billion 898 million lira will be paid to the CHP, 749 million 910 thousand lira to the MHP, 739 million 731 thousand lira to the İYİ Party and 656 million 337 thousand lira to the Green Left Party.
3.3 BILLION FOR THE ELECTIONS
According to the Political Parties Law, parties that exceed the 7 percent threshold in the last general elections will receive state aid at the rate of two-fifths of the general budget income.
The amount of aid is distributed in proportion to the number of votes that the parties received in the last general elections. This amount is paid 3 times during general election periods and 2 times in years when local elections are held.
In accordance with the law, 3.341 million lira of normal aid will be granted to the parties. Since the local elections will be held next March, an additional money of 3,341 million lira will be paid to these parties. Thus, the total payment will amount to 6,682 million liras.
A total of 5.25 million lire was paid to political parties this year, of which 1.475 million lire in January and 3.55 billion lire in March, before the general elections. The AKP received the most aid with 2.183 billion lira.
YRP AND ZAFER LOST HELP
According to the law, in addition to parties that exceed the 7 percent threshold, parties that obtained 3 percent or more of the votes in the last elections are also entitled to receive aid. However, since no party, except the five parties that were eligible for the main aid in the last general election, was able to exceed 3 percent, the other parties will not receive payment.
Those who came closest to the right to aid were the Re-Welfare Party (YRP) and the Victory Party. If the YRP, which received 1.5 million votes, had received 73,110 more votes, it would have received approximately 215 million lira in aid from the Treasury. If the Victory Party had received 380,000 more votes, it would have received 170 million lire in aid from the Treasury. aid.
