673 billion will be allocated to guaranteed projects

“Guaranteed projects,” including bridges, highways, tunnels and urban hospitals, cost billions of lira each year. Due to the projects, the burden on citizens has also increased. In this context, in 2024 an additional ‘guarantee payment’ of 162,434 million liras will be made to contracting companies from citizens’ taxes. The amount to be paid in the next three years will amount to 673,554 million liras. Commenting on the issue to SÖZCÜ, CHP İzmir Deputy and TBMM Plan Budget Commission Spokesperson Rahmi Aşkın Türeli said that public private sector (PPP) cooperation projects have become a “black hole” due to the guarantees granted and contracts entered into in foreign currency.

‘COMPANIES ARE SMILES’

CHP member Türeli said: “Bridges, highways, tunnels, airports and urban hospitals, which were built with the guarantee that not a cent would come out of citizens’ pockets, have become black holes.” happy in these projects. “As the exchange rate increases, the amount payable also increases,” he said. Rahmi Aşkın Türeli said: “The cost of PPP projects and city hospitals for the budget will be 162 billion 434 million lira in 2024, 240 billion 837 million lira in 2025 and 270 billion 281 million liras in 2026, for a total of 673 billion 554 million liras. in the next three years.” “It will happen,” she said.

‘This bug needs to be fixed urgently’

CHP’s Rahmi Aşkın Türeli said that contracts for guaranteed projects are kept secret: “Work that would have been done for 1 lira is being done for 10 lira. Foreign currency guarantee is provided. There are guarantees for vehicle passage on highways and bridges, and guarantees for passenger flights at airports. The public is not informed about the number of vehicle and patient guarantees provided. Citizens pay for bridges they do not cross and hospitals they do not go to. This error needs to be fixed urgently. “Contracts concluded in foreign currency should be converted to TL and the PPP model should be ended,” she said.
